If you had wanted to register to vote or update your details but didn’t get a chance to visit your local voting station this past weekend – all is not lost
The Independent Electoral Commission says people can still do so at their nearest IEC office.
According to officials figures, 500 000 people visited voting stations in KZN over the weekend during the registration drive.
Electoral officers in KZN registered 104 000 first time voters.
The purpose of the weekend drive was to also add to the roll – the missing addresses of registered voters – as instructed by the Constitutional Court in 2016.
Last week, the IEC said KZN had the highest number of incomplete addresses on the voters’ roll.
Provincial Electoral Officer – Mawethu Mosery says even though the weekend was a success, there’s still a lot of ground to cover.
The commission was given until June to update the addresses.
Mosery says even if the deadline come and goes – they will continue to add, update and verify addresses up until they close the voters’ roll ahead of next year’s general elections.
